Employers Liability

The policy indemnifies the employer for the costs in meeting his legal liability for damages in respect of death, injuries or diseases of employees, i.e. it provides cover to the party who will have to pay the legal bill and not the person who is injured.

Usually this will be a company but could be individual directors, managers or employees.

The policy covers death, injuries or diseases caused during the policy term, even if, as is often the case with diseases, these come to light years later. The date is considered to be the date of the first exposure to the cause of the disease. If there are multiple exposures, the insurers must decide between themselves how the costs are to be apportioned.
